Windows and Mac show this information in different places, but you do not need extra software. Built-in screens are enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\"><strong>1. You do not need to download \u201cPC checker\u201d apps from the web.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u2460 Settings \u2192 System \u2192 About<\/strong><br>This is the fastest overview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Open <strong>Settings<\/strong> (Win + I).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Go to <strong>System<\/strong> \u2192 <strong>About<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">You will see:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Processor<\/strong> \u2014 your CPU name and generation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Installed RAM<\/strong> \u2014 total memory<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Device name<\/strong> and <strong>Windows version<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">This screen is enough for a first snapshot. It does <strong>not<\/strong> always show the graphics card clearly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u2461 Task Manager \u2192 Performance<\/strong><br>This is the most useful screen for beginners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Press <strong>Ctrl + Shift + Esc<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Open the <strong>Performance<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Check these items one by one:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>CPU<\/strong> \u2014 name, core count, current usage<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Memory<\/strong> \u2014 total RAM and how much is in use<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Disk<\/strong> \u2014 SSD or HDD, capacity, current activity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>GPU<\/strong> \u2014 dedicated graphics card if you have one; otherwise the CPU\u2019s integrated graphics<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">If you see two GPU entries, the stronger one is usually the dedicated graphics card used for games and video work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u2462 Settings \u2192 System \u2192 Storage<\/strong><br>This shows how full your drive is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Open <strong>Settings<\/strong> \u2192 <strong>System<\/strong> \u2192 <strong>Storage<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Note the total size (256GB, 512GB, 1TB, etc.) and how much is free.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Note:<br>RAM and storage are easy to mix up. RAM is short-term working memory. Storage is where Windows, apps, and files live. \u201c8GB\u201d on the About screen is RAM. \u201c512GB\u201d on the Storage screen is the drive.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\"><strong>3. You still do not need extra apps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u2460 Apple menu \u2192 About This Mac<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Click the <strong>Apple logo (\uf8ff)<\/strong> in the top-left corner.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Choose <strong>About This Mac<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">You will see:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Chip<\/strong> \u2014 M-series name (for example, M3, M4, M4 Pro)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Memory<\/strong> \u2014 unified memory (this is the Mac\u2019s RAM)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>macOS version<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Display<\/strong> size on laptops and iMacs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Click <strong>More Info\u2026<\/strong> if you want the longer System Settings page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u2461 System Settings \u2192 General \u2192 About \/ Storage<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Open <strong>System Settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Go to <strong>General<\/strong> \u2192 <strong>About<\/strong> for chip, memory, and model name.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Go to <strong>General<\/strong> \u2192 <strong>Storage<\/strong> for drive capacity and free space.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">On Apple Silicon Macs, the CPU and GPU live on the same chip. You will not see a separate \u201cgraphics card\u201d the way Windows gaming PCs do. The chip name (Base \/ Pro \/ Max) is the graphics tier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Note:<br>You cannot add RAM later on a modern Mac. If About This Mac shows 8GB or 16GB, that number is final. Common Mistakes Beginners Make<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Mixing up RAM and storage.<\/strong> 16GB is memory. 512GB is the drive.
